Christmas in Peninsula

Peninsula Candlelight Walk
Thursday, December 4, 2014   5 - 9 pm
Return Home to the Heart of the Holidays with a traditional Candlelight Walk throughout the Village of Peninsula. Shops, organizations, churches, museums, and restaurants will greet you with festive holiday treats, music, carolers, choral concerts, special events, strolling historic characters from Hale Farm, local gifts, goodwill, and cheer.

Peninsula Tree Lighting Ceremony
Thursday, December 4, 2014  6 pm on the Bronson Church green
All are invited to celebrate the Village’s first-ever tree lighting of the Christmas tree donated by Heritage Farms.  Join in the caroling, bring a simple ball ornament to adorn the tree, wear an “ugly” Christmas sweater or festive holiday hat to add to the celebration.  Afterwards, enjoy the special events throughout the Village as you Return Home to the Heart of the Holidays!

Holiday memories for the entire family are made here in Peninsula.
*Visit with Santa at Trail Mix Peninsula  1-3 pm and make a special gift with Santa’s elves
*Select and cut your own Christmas tree from 9 am – 7 pm at Heritage Tree Farm
*Mail your letter to Santa at mailboxes outside of Trail Mix Peninsula and the Brown Rabbit
*Visit with “live” lambs from Spicy Lamb Farm at Yellow Creek Trading Co.
*Shop local, attend special holiday events at area businesses, galleries, shops and organizations
*Preregister for an historic holiday lantern tour at Hale Farm and Village at 6 pm
*Visit the display of holiday mini-trees decorated by local merchants and organizations at Peninsula Library from 9 am – 5 pm.  Purchase your raffle tickets for the trees.  Proceeds go to programming for children at the Library and the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce.

Santa’s “live” reindeer will make a guest appearance, sponsored by Yellow Creek Trading Company, Ohio Hardwood Furniture and the Friends of the Peninsula Library.  Santa himself will welcome children at Trail Mix Peninsula from 1-3 pm.  Santa’s helpers, workers, and friends will be in town greeting visitors, leading craft-making at the Peninsula Library (registration required), and sharing holiday joy.  Join the toy soldier and Santa’s elves for a sing-a-long at the Bronson Church at 1, 2, or 3 pm.  Start a Christmas Tradition!

Spend your day supporting local and shopping for unique gift items from our galleries, shops, organizations, and businesses!  Shop for locally made items at Handcrafted for the Holidays Bazaar from 11 am – 4 pm at the G.A.R. Hall.  Attend special events in shops, businesses, galleries, and organizations in Peninsula.  Spend the day and experience all we have to offer.

Oh what fun!  Join us for a scavenger hunt for elves hidden throughout the village!  Children may pick up the list of elf locations to begin their hunt at Yellow Creek Trading Company.  All participants who complete the hunt will receive a special prize.  All are encouraged to wear their own special elf attire.  Visit with Santa at Trail Mix Peninsula from 1-3 pm, make a special gift with Santa’s elves there as well.  Frosty the Snowman will be visiting The Log Cabin Gallery from 1-2 pm.

Spend your day supporting local and shopping for unique gift items from our shops, organizations, galleries, and businesses!  Attend a book signing with Claudia Taller at The Log Cabin Gallery, watch Bob Pozarski demonstrate glassblowing at Peninsula Art Academy, enjoy Avin Loki Baird’s music at Elements Gallery, and Greg Workman’s music at BluEyeDog Boutique, visit Terry Lumber & Supply for some free popcorn from their vintage popcorn machine.  And finish your evening with a performance by the Honey Dewdrops at the G.A.R. Hall’s Voices in the Valley.  Spend the day and experience all we have to offer.

Saturday, December 20
The Grinch is in town!  Visit with the Grinch and receive a sweet treat from 12-2 pm at Yellow Creek Trading Company.  We can all help the Grinch improve his reputation by donating canned or non-perishable food items at Yellow Creek.  From 2-3 pm, the Grinch will be wandering through the Village.  Buy your raffle tickets at area businesses in hopes of winning the Grinch’s special basket of Peninsula goodies.

Spend your day supporting local and shopping for unique gift items from our shops, organizations, galleries, and businesses!  Enjoy music by Jon Mosey from 2-4 at Elements Gallery, enjoy special sales at many of the specialty shops in town, visit The Log Cabin Gallery for its final weekend of the Winter White Out Exhibit.  Finish your evening off with the Ohio City Singers at the G.A.R. Hall’s Voices in the Valley.  Spend the day and experience all we have to offer.

Nov 17: Demo by Michael Winston

Monday, November 17th, we will be fortunate to have Michael Winston demonstrate his unique Magic Marker painting technique. Michael has mastered the use of markers, with lively colors and a dimensional technique that brings his art to life.

Art Studios Celebrate 1st Anniversary

For the past year, artists Karen Koch and Dana Giel-Ray have brought art to Main Street, Hudson. They established their art studios on the 2nd floor of 220 N. Main Street where Koch owns Life Needs Art, a painting studio, and Giel-Ray owns Bellabor Art Jewelry, creating chain maille jewelry.

Opening art studios and becoming full-time artists was a life-long dream for both women. Marking their first year of pursuing their passion is a milestone that they are excited to share.

Nov. 14: 2nd Friday Art Hop Celebrates "Gratitude"

Thanksgiving comes early for the 2nd Friday Art Hop as Hudson studios and galleries celebrate “gratitude” in a variety of ways. On Friday, November 14 from 5-8pm, visitors can tour more than a dozen working studios and art galleries in Hudson, as well as participating merchants.

First Anniversary at the studios of Karen Koch and Dana Giel-Ray. For one night only, they’ll share their studios with Debbie Armstrong of Hand-n-hand Creations. Armstrong creates crocheted wearables that are creative and cozy.

Caffe Gasperi Opens at Chentini Gallery: Owner Laura Chentini named Caffe Gasperi after her father and grandfather. The Italian coffeehouse is an addition to the Hudson art scene.

Fundraiser for Veterans at The Red Twig through ARM of Kent: The 50 Days, 30 Beds initiative will benefit Valor Home in Lorain county. Stop by to make a donation and check out upcycled glass by Jennifer L. Worden and paintings by Brandon McCutcheon.

Portraiture at Mary Catherine Haneline Studio: For a different Christmas present that expresses gratitude, commission a custom portrait of a loved one or paint a portrait during open studio times.

“Generations” at Shannon Casey Studio: a display of whimsical watercolor monsters, digital paintings and jewelry by illustrator daughter Katie (Cusack) Scalmato, needlepoint “paintings” by grandmother Marie Sinclair, and artwork by Casey.

"Three Artists, Three Mediums" at the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation features Beth Lindenberger, Ceramics; José Sacaridiz, Painting and David Shankland, Wood Sculpture.

The Moos Gallery of Western Reserve Academy, Knight Fine Art Center, shows paintings and portraits by Diane Talmadge of Fairlawn.

Medina County Art League hosts the Ohio Watercolor Society's 2014 Travel Exhibition, including award winners from the 37th Annual Juried Exhibition.
