Whiskey Painters Of America

Membership in Whiskey Painters of America, and international club, is limited to 150 people. The club dates back to the early 1950s, to a bar in NYC where Joe Ferriot of Akron (using an Anacin box pallet) dipped his shortened brush into his martini. Thus was born the first whiskey painting.

The 27th annual Whiskey Painters of America show at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center during April included 229 paintings by 35 artists. The little 4x5" pictures are of water media with a little spirits in the water and probably in the artist.

Nine HSA members had paintings in in the show. They are Harriet Elson, Ann Kah, Sally Heston, Kitty Waybright, Cathy Welner, Barbara Zohn, John Bender, Barney Cole and Hilary Sheeter.
